New day, deep night
Acrylic on canvas, 50x70 cm. 2020

Having accidentally encountered this alien creature in the city, you ask yourself: who is she? Perhaps she is part of some hidden world, a new culture that you don't need to see. Or, on the contrary, she considers herself quite ordinary and wonders why you are looking at her so intently. A new day is a strange, incomprehensible new culture, a fashion that we suddenly begin to notice everywhere. Deep night is an oddity, a mystery, an enigma. A new day always dawns in the deep night

"She was numb, staring in fascination at the grand collapse of the world. A second before you wake up, the dream character realizes that her world will now cease to exist."

This painting was created in the fall of 2020, and I interpreted it for myself as a fantasy and surreal reflection on global world events of that year

The well-known dream of a philosopher about a butterfly asks the question: what is more real? Does this girl live in a gloomy dark world and dream about another fantasy world? Or is this fantasy world her home, and the dark ubranistic reality is a bad dream? For me, this question is a metaphor for the creative process. I have been inventing fantasy worlds since childhood. My life is divided between reality and fantasy. In the most depressing times, I wonder: which world matters more? Should I focus more on the drab routine or on the fantasy world that gives me happiness and freedom? What is the primary reality?
